Last PTA Community Meeting of This School Year!
Join us via Zoom
Have you been wondering how to become more involved at BHIS?  There are still opportunities available to make a huge difference at our school.

You may view our PTA candidates for the 2020-2021 school year here.  Please consider volunteering for one of the vacant positions so we could continue advocating for our children and providing the necessary support to BHIS. We will be holding elections, approving the budget, and answering questions at the next PTA community meeting on Wednesday, May 27.

Email us if you have any questions.
“Build a community. No one does big things by themselves.” – Former President Barack Obama“I know how to be safe. I am kind to myself and others. I am responsible.” The Beacon Hill student pledge has been modeled beautifully by the adults in our community these last few months.
It is safe and responsible to ask for help when you need it, and it is responsible and kind to give help when you are able. Our students see us living these values and are learning from us how to build community together.
Here’s what the school community, PTA, and school staff have been doing:giving 90 families bags of fresh food weekly with the help of Rainier Valley Food Bank and Juan Carlos Torres (family support worker). Families and community supporters are donating rice, beans, eggs, mild, and bread, and the most precious gift – Time – to make all of this happen. Thank you!granting at least 62 families financial assistance from our GoFundMe, Family Relief Fund, and Family Sponsor programs. A million thanks to the 93 generous donors who have given so far.  We are doing this together!Connecting 35 families to internet for distance learning. If your family needs help with food, rent, or internet, please contact your student’s teacher.

2) GoFundMe Please consider donating to this fund if company match or tax receipts are not an issue. Please donate and share! Money donated here is not tax deductible.

3) Sponsor a FamilyAre you able to pledge $50 to $300 a month for the next 3 months to directly help a family? Email to pledge your support.

The PTA is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and is eligible for employer match if your company matches donations.

Host Families Still Needed!2020-21 Guest Teacher ProgramThe school will likely hire two Chinese and three Spanish guest teachers for next year. We hope you’ll consider hosting a teacher in your home – it’s a wonderful opportunity!

Sharing our home with Min has meant we have extra help with Mandarin homework and has brought Chinese culture alive for us in a way we can’t get in a classroom.” – Carolyn Feng

Without host families, our guest teacher program will not be possible! If you’re interested in learning more, please contact Kate Benward.
