  • Check-in/community building 30 minutes five (5) times per week
  • Instructional period 1 (ELA) 60 minutes five (5) times per week
  • Instructional period 2 (Math) 60 minutes four (4) times per week
  • Instructional period 3 (Social Studies/Science/STI) 30 minutes four (4) times per week
  • Small group support 60 minutes five (5) times per week (determined by school)

The instructional periods can contain both synchronous and asynchronous instruction

What does Synchronous mean?

  • Teacher provides whole class instruction / online lesson
  • Teacher works with a small group of students live via video conferencing
  • Students work independently but teacher is available to answer questions via video conferencing, chats, emails, or phone calls FAQ for Elementary & Secondary Schedules

What does Asynchronous mean?

2nd and 3rd grade ELA classes
To better serve students and families during remote learning, the 2nd and 3rd grade Literacy teachers will be partner teaching with one of the math/science teachers. This will allow more flexibility with scheduling and deeper family connections. This means
current third graders may have a different ELA teacher than last year. Teachers will be reaching out to you soon if they haven’t already to schedule family check-ins to launch the year.
Dual Language Waitlists – correction from last week’s bulletin
There was an error in last week’s bulletin – please see the correct message below:Waitlists – we will not be able to move any students from the waitlists for dual languages
classes until after the start of the school year.
Supplies and Technology
The school will be providing supplies for students to use at home. Teachers will coordinate with you about a date to either pick-up those supplies for your students or arrange to have them dropped off.SPS has also ordered a device for every student, moving our district to a “one-to-one” device model. K-2 students will receive Ipads and 3-5 will receive a laptop. In addition, the SPS technology team is offering a “bring your own device” program for students who would like to use their personal device for remote learning. As devices arrive, the Department of Technology (DoTS) will work with school leaders to deliver technology
supports to staff and families. Training for families, students, and staff will be provided on common platforms and translated “how to” videos will be produced to support students while learning at home.
Questions? Want to help?
The PTA is working even harder to build community among families, teachers, and staff this year. We need volunteers who can help! For more information, email info@beaconhillpta.org or check out the PTA Facebook Page.

COVID-19 Updates

How Can You Help?

We are in this together.  We know that the COVID-19 epidemic is disproportionately impacting the most vulnerable people in our society, and we won’t stand for it.

Strong Community
The PTA has established 3 significant ways to help support our families meet urgent basic needs during this catastrophic shutdown. The need in our community is great. Strong communities support each other, and BHIS is an incredibly strong community.

Go Fund Me
A separate fund established by some BHIS parents to also provide direct and immediate help with food, rent, and other urgent costs.
Please consider donating to this fund if company match or tax receipts are not an issue. Please donate and share! https://bit.ly/HelpBHISFamilies.

Beacon Hill Families Relief Fund
A Fund within the PTA designed to provide immediate assistance to Beacon Hill families to meet their basic needs. Learn more.
Please consider donating to this fund if you get a company match or need a tax receipt for your donation. Send a check to Beacon Hill PTA, memo line Emergency Relief Fund, 2025 14th Ave. S. Seattle, WA 98144 or donate via our PayPal link (include the phrase “Emergency Relief Fund” under “Add a note” when contributing to the Relief Fund).

Sponsor a Family Are you able to pledge $50 to $300 a month for the next 3 months to directly help a family? We will pair you with 2 or three other sponsor families into a pod to help a family in our school community meet their needs. Part of being in a strong community is relationships among and between families.  However, we know that power dynamics can be uncomfortable and damaging, so we will preserve families’ privacy as much as possible. Email Callista.Chen@gmail.com to pledge your support.

Equity and accountability: Funds from all of these methods are disbursed confidentially and as equitably as possible, following guidance from the family support worker, teachers, and school administration. Questions? Write info@beaconhillpta.org

THANK YOU!
